The anti-virus company, AVG, has bought Sana Security. Press Release
Sana Security produce “intelligence” security software, which is supposed to detect illicit behavior and block it. This has obvious advantages, and AVG is looking to team up with Sana Security to produce an improved data theft prevention tool – also known as data loss prevention.
This is an intersting move, though not unsurpsing. The other anti-virus companies, McAfee and Symantec already have their own Data Loss Prevention Tools, these tools are not cheap, but a becoming more people, with Gartner predicting growth in the DLP (Data Loss Prevention Market).
With data loss and data theft statistics for 2008 making grim reading, and predictions for 2009 to be more of the same, IT managers, operation risk managers, and CIOs must be looking at this software far more closely than before
