In a landmark ruling the creators of Pirate Bay, the infamous download site, have been jailed in Sweden.
This case, which saw Frederik Neij, Carl Lundstrom, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, and Peter Sunde sentanced to a year after they were found guilty of breaking copyright law will have a massive could have implicates for other download sites like Mininova. It will also have come to a surpise to the team after they had stated that they were confident they would win the case
Pirate Bay was most recently in the news for being one of the sites providing access to the stolen copy of Wolverine.
The case is interesting because Pirate Bay did not actually host stolen or illegal data, is was just a source to access them, i.e. it was not so much a library of data, but a library index to the data.
They team were also ordered to pay £3m in damages, but are appealing the verdict and the sentance
